Sauna with contact lenses

Going to the sauna with contact lenses

Most contact lenses can withstand sauna conditions, but in practice, some guests experience discomfort such as a “gritty feeling” or burning eyes during or after their visit.

A visit to our saunas should offer deep relaxation — and any discomfort may interfere with that. That’s why Thermen recommends removing your contact lenses before using the sauna. An added benefit is that you won’t risk losing your lenses while showering or cooling off in a plunge pool.

Wearing contact lenses in the sauna
Many people wear their lenses in the sauna without any problems. If you’re unsure, it’s best to consult your optician or ophthalmologist.

Your optician can advise whether your lenses can handle the sauna’s varying temperatures (hot–cold). There are many different types of lenses available today, each requiring different care. Since eyes are sensitive, caution is key. Your eye doctor can also explain the effects of sauna use while wearing contact lenses.

Thermen offers more
At Thermen, you can not only enjoy a variety of saunas, but also pamper yourself in our beauty center. How about a rejuvenating massage or a deeply relaxing body treatment? Wearing contact lenses is usually no issue during these experiences.
