With or without swimwear in the sauna?

Before booking your sauna day, it’s important to know what type of day you’re planning to visit. In most cases, a sauna visit is nude. However, if you're not comfortable with this – for personal reasons or beliefs – you can choose to visit on a swimwear day. On such days, wearing swimwear is mandatory, so you don’t have to worry about nudity.

On regular days, saunas are typically nude. That said, it doesn’t mean everyone is walking around unclothed at all times. In many parts of the resort, wearing a bathrobe is mandatory.

Tips for your first time at the sauna

Check the website beforehand for facilities, frequently asked questions and house rules. This way, you can prepare yourself for the relaxing day that awaits you. Ask for a map or explanation. Our staff are happy to answer your questions and guide you through your first sauna experience. Don't start immediately with a sauna that's too hot and don't sit at the top right away either. In many saunas you can sit on multiple levels, but the higher up, the warmer it is. Build up slowly and above all, make sure to listen to your body. Don't stay in a sauna for too long. In the sauna cabins, there's an hourglass, usually set to fifteen minutes. However, the most important thing remains: listen to your own body. If you feel you need to cool down, then do so. Make sure you cool down properly after being in a sauna. Read more here about why cooling down is important.

Sauna rules and sauna etiquette

We would also like to share some sauna rules and sauna etiquette with you. Most standard rules can be found on the website of the wellness resort. It’s advisable to read them beforehand so you know what to expect. Below is an overview of the most important sauna etiquette:

  • Make sure you show respect for other guests and staff.

  • In a sauna cabin, always sit completely on your towel. This way, your sweat lands on the towel and not on the benches.

  • Do not walk around the entire complex naked. It’s better to wear a towel or bathrobe. The only time you walk around naked is during the cooling-down round. In the restaurants, wearing a bathrobe is even mandatory.

  • Do not sit or lie in the sauna with your legs wide apart. This is unpleasant for other sauna guests.

  • Make sure to stay quiet. Talking or whispering is not allowed in sauna cabins.

  • Intimate acts are absolutely not allowed. Even if this is desired (for example with your partner), it is forbidden.

  • It is not permitted to bring devices with a camera. These can be left in your locker. Phones may also not be used in the changing rooms. Do you want to check your messages? Then do so before entering the changing room.

  • Make sure to keep enough distance from other guests. It’s not pleasant to sit too close together.
