Thermen Resorts: 20 years

After seven years of travelling, exploring and planning, Thermen Bussloo opened its doors in 2006. This laid the foundations for Thermen Resorts as we know it today. In 2012, the wellness experience was further expanded with the addition of Hotel Thermen Bussloo.

In 2017, Thermen Soesterberg came into the family’s orbit. Step by step, the resort was given a new look, with the wooded surroundings serving as its natural starting point. Here, Aufguss was also given a special platform with the opening of the Netherlands’ first Sauna Theatre. Our Aufguss masters subsequently took this experience to international stages.

The desire to create another wellness resort of their own led to Thermen Berendonck. Inspired by travels to destinations including India and Morocco, the resort was built from the ground up and opened in 2019. In 2025, this destination was further enhanced with the five-star Hotel Thermen Berendonck.

In 2019, Thermen Bad Nieuweschans also became part of Thermen Resorts. As the first spa centre in the Netherlands, the resort brought with it a rich history, an experienced team and the tranquillity of the far north. A place with a character all of its own and, as such, a special addition to the family.

A few years later, Thermen Maarssen and Thermen Maastricht also joined the family. Two resorts, each with its own setting, atmosphere and character, but with the same focus on wellness and hospitality.

In this way, over the course of twenty years, Thermen Resorts has grown into a family of six wellness resorts, each unique and with its own story.

But twenty years of Thermen Resorts is about more than just our resorts. It’s about our Thermen Family: colleagues who take pride in their work every day and are always there for one another. And, of course, it’s about our loyal guests, who are an indispensable part of our story.

This week we’re celebrating our anniversary at Thermen Bussloo, the very place where it all began twenty years ago. With traditional steam rituals and experiences from back then, special shows, live music and festive extras, we’re looking back and celebrating together.

And at the same time, we’re looking ahead.

Twenty years is therefore not the end. It is the foundation for everything that may yet come. So dream big and live your dreams.
